Reddit Is Warning Protesting Mods Their Communities Will Not Stay Private

BREAKING NEWS:

The battle continues between Reddit, and subreddit community moderators.

Details:

  • Reddit has been pressuring moderators who have set their subreddits to private to reopen their communities.
  • The company has given moderators deadlines to lay out their plans for reopening but said that they can’t stay closed.
  • Reddit has been pushing for protesting communities to reopen for weeks, telling them it would replace “inactive moderation,” “mods vandalizing communities,” and “subreddit squatters” with active mods.
  • Many subreddits have reopened as normal, while others have switched from private to restricted where content is viewable, but only certain users can post or leave comments.
  • While in restricted mode, any links that show up in Google search results are made useful, but it appears that Reddit wants to make that synchronous across the board, and it may possibly reopen communities unilaterally, although Reddit hasn’t specifically said this.
